Doman Name Registrars

Are you about to set up a website? Or considering one? If so, you will need a domain name (or URL). Here are some resources you can use to purchase it after you've decided on just the right one.

As you think about a new domain name, consider the following:

  • Purchase at least 2 years at a time. (The longer the better, as far as search engines are concerned. They consider domain names with one year expiration dates as being more 'risky'. A sort of "here today, gone tomorrow" sort of thing.)
  • Make very sure you know when it will expire or you may find yourself without a working website when it does. And, to make matters worse, someone else can buy it from you and either use it for their own legitimate or nefarious purpose or hold it hostage, demanding payment which you may or may not be able to afford.
  • Even though there currently are approximately 1502 Top Level Domains (TLDs) (as of April 2021 according to ICANN) some people only know about .com. If you purchase something else, beware, visitors may type in your domain name but add .com and go to your competitor's website. See the current, complete list of TLDs. Clicking on any of the links below will open a new window or tab and take you to another website. Phase One has no control over these websites. Please read all documentation thoroughly to fully understand all costs and features offered.

I don't know if it's an Urban Legand or not, but some people think that when you use the services of some online domain name suggestion tools, those who are running those websites keep a record of the domain names people are seeking. Then these nefarious actors buy domain names in the hopes of getting more money in auction situations. The instances some people cite could be coincidences, but they said after seeking suggestions (which were available at the time of their search) and going back later, those domain names were taken.

In any case, it would be best to do your domain name contemplation offline and only go online when you are ready to make your purchase.

FYI: Some of the sites below offer many more services in addition to domain name registration.

The following websites may not offer domain name purchasing directly, but will either help you come up with the domain name you want or will direct you to a domain name registrar.
